Senator Orrin Hatch Senator Robert Bennett Congressman Rob Bishop Congressman Jim Matheson Congressman Jason Chaffetz

"The only purpose for which power can be rightly exercised over any member of a civilized community against his will, is to prevent harm to others. His own good, either physical or moral, is not sufficient warrant. He cannot rightfully be compelled to do or forbear because it will be better for him to do so, because it will make him happier, because in the opinion of others, to do so would be wise or even right. These are good reasons for remonstrating with him, but not for compelling him or visiting him with any evil in case he do otherwise."

John Stuart Mill

Welcome to UtahReach! Government

The resources provided here can help us understand the foundations of our unique form of government. It was clearly defined and severely limited at the Federal level with the expectation that most of the people's business would be transacted at the state and local level.

Take the time to read the immortal documents and then visit the links to State and Federal legislative activities and check in on your representatives. It may surprise you what they are up to - especially when you understand what they ought to be doing...

The next time you go to a town meeting, take a copy of some of the legislation proposed by your representatives and have them explain it to you. Getting an explanation from the source is much more satisfactory than a sound-byte interpretation by the media or other special interest groups. The republican form of government was created to be accountable to the people. It is up to the people to keep it that way.

Get acquainted with these documents and then give your elected Representatives an opportunity to make an accounting!
