Woodruff is named after Wilford Woodruff who was an early President of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Dedicated pioneers settled this community.
Generally the climatic conditions in Rich County are condsidered rather severe. Nowhere is this more true than in Woodruff. Woodruff consistently has the lowest temperatures in Utah during the winter months. Killing frosts are common early and late in the short growing season Therefore, the crops are limited to those which are hardy by nature and it shouldn't surprise anyone to know that the town's population is limited to those who are also hardy by nature. During the summer the Woodruff area becomes a beautiful agrarian valley. The Summer is also a great time to travel the scenic Monte Cristo Highway (closed during the winter) that stretches between Huntsville and Woodruff.
