Welcome to Glenwood!
Glenwood

Glenwood is located five miles east of Richfield. It was originally called Glen Cove after Robert Wilson Glenn, the leader of the first group of settlers. During the Black Hawk War, the community was abandoned for a time, then resettled. In 1874, the United Order was incorporated in Glenwood and was very successful for the next five years. During this time, many industries were established and the people pooled their resources and energies for the benefit of all. It was a time of great unity and happiness. Historians claim that the Order was lived more successfully in Glenwood than anywhere else. Several buildings from pioneer times remain, including two that are on the National Register of Historic Places: the old store and one of the grist mills.
