Welcome to Kamas! - Gateway to the High Uintas
Kamas

Kamas City was originally called "Kamas Prairie" by trappers and Native Americans because of the large number of Camas plants in the area. The Camas plant is a genus of the lily family with flower clusters known as Hyacinths. Kamas Town was incorporated in 1911 and became a third-class city in 1963. We are located at the west edge of the Uinta Mountains at an elevation of 6,470 feet approximately 45 miles east of Salt Lake City in beautiful Kamas Valley.

Annually, during the week of July 24th, our community celebrates the arrival of Mormon Pioneers to the state in 1847. During the week-long celebration, known as Fiesta Days, residents and visitors alike can participate in and/or observe demolition derbies, rodeos and rodeo events, parades, pageants, melodramas, children's activities and games.

While enjoying the fishing, hunting, hiking, camping, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling and other outdoor activities, the area has to offer, you can also take advantage of all the amenities of home. Churches, grocery and hardware stores, retail shops, movie rentals, hair salons, medical and dental facilities, parks (including an ice rink), bed and breakfast, post office, gas stations and restaurants can all be found in Kamas. You can even go for a swim in the indoor pool at the Middle School. But don't just take our word for it. Come see for yourself. Come visit us in beautiful, friendly Kamas City.
