Welcome to San Juan County... land of excitement, diversity and adventure. San Juan County is located in the Colorado Plateau. We are the largest county in Utah and the second largest in the United States with 7,884 square miles or 5.2 million acres. Few counties offer such a wide variety of landscape and rich panorama. We are surrounded by canyons, deserts, lakes and mountains.
In 1861 a Utah newspaper described Southeastern Utah as "one vast continuity of waste and measurably valueless..." but that classification has long since been abandoned by any who have visited us or viewed a portion of San Juan County through the lens of a photographers camera. San Juan County has been classed as the most scenic in Utah.
San Juan County not only offers a variety of recreational activities from hiking, horseback riding, fishing, boating and skiing to jeeping, mountain biking, and repelling. We also enjoy very distinct and beautiful seasons.
